Day one: Glenwood to Atlantic

I woke this morning at 3:30 a.m. Phoenix time, . As I stumbled out of bed and to the kaebos, I saw hundreds of cyclists already leaving. For the next hour and a half there was a steady stream of bikes leaving, though we were far from the last to leave, rolling out at 7:00 Iowa time.

The day was really fun in all sorts of new ways. We met a banana tandem, ate the pancake man’s pancakes, took our picture with the world’s largest bicycle, and went down a huge slip and slide type thing on innertubes. We even got free coke. But it wa
s also about a thousand degrees (factoring in humidity) and there were a lot of hills.  I suppose it was the best of times, and it was the worst of times.

Oh. And the food. Ryan might look impressive with his food portions. The best part is…

that was just one sectionof dinner

. Life is good. Now it’s time to get ready for bed to do it all again tomorrow.

made it to iowa!

we have the tent set up.  john and laurie are chilling in the Glenwood library because it is NASTY hot and humid out. Dirk is driving to the east side of iowa so the truck will be waiting for us at the end of the ride. He’ll be back tomorrow, getting a ride back across the state with team short-bus. you goya love ragbrai names!
